About the IOSCO Research Function
IOSCO's Research Function
The IOSCO Research Function consists of IOSCO's Research Department, IOSCO's Committee on Emerging Risks and an external network of experts. See below for information on members and staff.
Committee on Emerging Risks
IOSCO's Committee on Risk and Research is called the Standing Committee on Risk and Research (SCRR) and lately renamed to Committee on Emerging Risks (CER). The IOSCO SCRR was established in 2011 to provide a platform for securities market regulatory experts and economists to discuss emerging risks and market developments; and develop and assess tools to assist regulators in implementing IOSCO's Principles 6 and 7.
Projects undertaken by the SCRR/CER equip regulators with the appropriate tools, data and information needed to identify, monitor and mitigate systemic and emerging risks in their jurisdictions.
The CER's work plan for 2017 includes the identification of risks, monitoring developments in financial technology, and data governance. Furthermore, the members of the CER provide input to the Securities Markets Risk Outlook 2018.
IOSCO Research Department
The IOSCO Research Department was established in 2011, as part of IOSCO's Strategic Direction 2010-2015. The Research Department provides research support to IOSCO Committees and Task Forces and produces analysis on market developments, and potential risks in securities markets – for the information of the IOSCO membership and the public. The Research Department is also a member of the CER.
The Research Department is supported by an external Expert Network – from academia, private industry and other international economic and financial organizations. The network is used to enrich the Research Department's data gathering and analysis exercises. If you are interested in joining the external Expert Network, please email [email protected]
The Research Department's work plan for 2017 includes the IOSCO Securities Markets Risk Outlook 2018, and the expansion of the Statistics Website. The Research Department also supports policy committees of IOSCO with research and data collection on complex problems and emerging risks, and helps IOSCO's Education and Training function.
